Edward is ready to move in with his dad’s girlfriend and her son, Nathan. Though the new living situation is a little awkward, Edward and Nathan get along, and Nathan is relieved to pass on the guardianship of Dew, a young water monster, to Edward—since Nathan is beginning to lose his childhood connection to the Holy Beings. But Edward must learn quickly how to care for Dew, because Dew’s powerful older sister, Yitoo Bii’aanii, is arriving from the Third World after 160 years of recovery. She suspects that a monstrous Enemy from the Hero Twins stories has returned and is stealing water across the Navajo Nation.

As Nathan, Edward, Dew, and Yitoo search for this Modern Enemy, they must confront their own pasts and inner selves in order to prevent a catastrophic disaster threatening the Fourth World.
